Wo-Man-ising

Wo-Man; S-He; Lad-Y; Fe-Male: Talking of "women empowerment" let's consider this, though these are just words and do not matter much. But the irony is that, none of these adjectives, determining the gender, are without a "he" support! Woman is incomplete without Man, She without He, Lady without Lad and Female without Male. Questioning myself again and again gets me nowhere at all. We talk of Women empowerment and that we are no more a weaker sex, but, when it comes to reservation of seats for women, we are all thumbs up for it, why? Why are we treated like we need to be supported for everything? Probably because that's what we've always wanted! Why do we say, "it’s too heavy, I can't pick it up, call dad”? Why do we need a body-guard brother? Why do we apply from a women's quota for a college seat, rather why not get marks worth getting a general seat? We say there must be reservations for women, and they must increase too from time to time in Vidhansabha & Rajyasabha, why? Can't we suffice the conditions of the same and be worth the seat rather than begging for it? We say, males have dominated us and our spirits, asking myself I just happen to realize that we are being restricted because we do not bother to oppose, we are being called weak because that's what we believe we are, Our needs are neglected because we never cared for them enough! Why blame males for what we are doing to ourselves! And the biggest of all examples is that we celebrate a women's day and never a men's day! So does that mean that we are to be cherished just for a single day and then we can be brought back to the odds?
In a nation where Goddesses are worshipped, we hear of rape, dowry killings, honor killings, domestic violence, foetus tests and much more every day. I’m surprised to find how even today many people wish and pray for a baby boy – Where will you get your sons married if there are no daughters left in the society. Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi received tremendous public fury, but did that stop crime against women in our nation – NO! Infact, some of the famous personalities gave their best advices to justify the increasing crime-rate against women. One of our “Leaders” said, women should dress decently to avoid such incidents, so does that mean a woman clad in a sari/ burqua doesn’t get raped? One more intelligent leader said, rapes happen in ‘India’ and not ‘Bharat’. So did he mean that villages don’t face crime against women? Or did he mean that a crime which doesn’t get reported is not a crime? Or even worst, a woman who can think modern has to get raped as a punishment? This wasn’t all, a “Dharma Guru” said, the girl (Nirbhaya) should’ve fallen to the feet of the rapists and pleaded for her life calling them “brothers” – Wow, so Sir, please guide us on what are the women who get raped by their own brothers, fathers, uncles and husbands meant to do? Then again, a very supportive Woman Leader said, if the female had given-in to the demands of the rapists, she would at least not have been brutally murdered. Okay ma’am, so that is what you teach your daughter? Be submissive! Give yourself to those who want to rape and you live longer! Whoa, so now, rather than sending girls for education in literacy and self-defense, we send them for classes on how to be submissive to a rapist. And better yet, we should also call for “curfew for women between 6:00 pm to 6:00 am”. And yes, one more way to make women safe could be, chain them up together and put them in “safety Vaults”.
For those who wish and work, always get it and for those who complaint and cry, never get it! Yes, situations may differ, places may differ, facilities may differ and thinking may differ: We say; only women in cities and metros get the benefits of everything. But why do the females in rural can't support each other and grow? There have been numerous examples of NGO's like Lijjat papad where women have proved their power. But, we just want to complaint about things not happening and then making sure they don't happen to any other women because we couldn't! Shameless are we, because it is a mother-in-law who burns her daughter-in-law alive for dowry! It’s a mother who teaches her son to ill-treat his wife, it’s a wife who teaches her husband to not let their daughter study! At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much does the Male community support or not support the Women, it hardly makes a difference. Why blame men when difference can be made only if women understood their own rights & responsibilities! If we can bleed for a week and not die, if we can carry a baby for 9 months in our womb, give birth to a new life, if we can change the world around us, I don't understand how we can not liberate ourselves. Wake up, arise and start moving towards your life! Gandhiji once said, if you educate a man you educate and individual, but if you educate a woman, you not only educate a family but the society at large.
Let us put an end to the woes of women, let us join hands to clap for the women who have made a difference to the lives of many and march against crime, let us not put our heads down in shame but stay upright and salute the women who have fought all odds to live their lives their way. Let's promise ourselves not to give up or give in, rather, fight for our rights but not beg! Let us be just humans and not let our genders decide our future. Let us be one and let the world see how powerful are we!
