Educating The Literate

Water water everywhere, all on board to sink, yet, not a drop to drink...

Our's is a similar situation. Sometimes it is frustrating to come to terms with the fact that although we have rivers of literacy flowing around us with so many schools, colleges and private institutions coming up, we are still equally overflowing with a narrow mind set and ego centric thinking.

The world is under an obligation (at least we think that way), it owes us a lot of things. Because we are burdened with the legacy of having born in one of the richest cultures in the world, we believe we have the finest hearts of all humans, yet, we convince ourselves of being the humblest brains and the best of intentions. We sure have it all, but the question is, do we exploit it all?

What do we still lack in? We lack the ability to differentiate the need of time to think from heart the the time to act from heart or vice-a-verse. We lack to differentiate between human being and being human. We mess up empathy with sympathy and worst yet, we mess up God with religion. We have everything it takes to succeed and still, we are a developing country since our independence. Why are we not able to reach there? May be because we have learnt to be independent from being dependent but we still need to learnt hat we co-exist and interdependence is the key to it. We need to differentiate between being logical & reasonable we need to understand that education & not just literacy is the need of hour.
We teach our kids to to stay safe & what it means to be abused but we do not have programs in place to treat people with mental blocks who abuse children. We have marathons of events to portray how poor and helpless a few sections of our country are but we don't have the heart to pay for a less fortunate child's study. We wear Prada, Gucci & Gabbana but we bargain for brinjals & apples at the hopcoms. We give a ruppee to a beggar and smile like an evidently proud person but can we not pay a little more to the maid who slogs all day long to earn a living? We try to hire people to work for us at the cheapest possible salaries but expect that we be paid higher since we are saving so much by exploiting others. But hey, isn't this the old crab mentality, pull others down or let others be down so that it looks like we're at the top.
Let's stop feeding our egos, let's stop lying to ourselves & let's stop our guilt from making us good. There shouldn't be a choice or a chance to make us good humans, let's just learn to do what, if manifested, double folds - let's spread smiles. It's time for the scholars to educate themselves, let's learn that money can't buy happiness, contentment can make you happy.
