Raksha-Bandhan
The knot of protection
Do we know that in ancient days, a wife used to tie a "Raskha" to her husband's wrist to ensure he is protected from evil but this changed over a period of time and now we all know this day as a brother/sister day where the sister ties a sacred thread around her brothers wrist and the brother for the same reasons.
How we all wish, protection or safety was so simple and easy... Alas! This is just a ritual, with a prayer to protect our loved ones.
Today, as I look back, I realize that the major importance of this day in my life was - wearing new clothes when I was very young, getting gifts when I was a little more older, family gathering as a teenager, reunion as a married lady & now, as an adult, this day is moreover a long awaited day where I get to meet my relatives and cherish the memories we created on this day every single year. There's no protection or safety involved - it's all love.
Let's make a safer society and vow to protect each other, not with the knots but the "do not's"!
Let's forget about who is she to be protected - a wife or a sister or a mother or a friend!
Let's just protect her whoever she may be - stranger!
What we need today is to protect her from rapes, abuse, violence, injustice and social trauma of being a lady.
Let's not make a fuss over who did what and why did it happen - let's simply put our efforts to ensure nothing more happens.
Whether it is a 7 month old girl child who needs to be saved from abortion or a 70 year old lady who needs to be made feel safe as a senior citizen. Whoever she is, let's make sure we don't close our eye to her need of being protected.
She is not the fairer sex or a lesser child of the God, she is just a little more vulnerable physically because God made males (mos to of them) stronger than women (most of them),
Happy Rakshabandhan to All Males Trying to Make a Difference
