This year, while we were all busy celebrating the presence of that one wonderful teacher in our lives who molded our entire life and made us capable to face the challenges of life, there are a million unfortunate girls who are deprived of their right to be educated. The reason is that they are Girls!
Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan wanted his birthday to be celebrated as Teacher's Day to give respect to those modest souls who make this world a better place to live. Instead, we spend a lot of money on giving flowers, chocolates & cards to them. Indeed, every person who is a teacher at heart would appreciate if that money could be spent to educate just one more child. Teacher's never work for money alone, it is not a profession, it is a way of life for them.
You may be very literate but unless you have a heart that yearns for satisfaction derived out of sharing knowledge, you aren't eligible of being a teacher. You do not need a degree to be a teacher, you could simply teach the kids of roadside vendors, the homeless, the laborers and the list is endless, because, the need for education is unlimited. You ain't need to be no master of a subject, you can teach them how to read a little and understand it, you could teach them how to add and subtract, you could teach them to count their money and you still are a teacher doing a fabulous job for upliftment of the God's lesser children.
Mahatma Gandhi had said very strong words that need to be inscribed on every wall of India - "When you educate a man, you educate an individual but when you Educate a woman, you educate the entire family"
Why do we forget the fact that a lady is responsible of an entire family's well being. She teaches the kids of the family to act wise, to be fair, to think logically and also to live their life to the hearts contentment. And we deprive her of education, how wise are we?
In a country like ours, we must understand that a society without education is no different than a building without foundation. Let's all take an oath to ensure that every child, every girl in our country shall be educated. Let's vow to teach whatever we can to whoever needs it & take pride in doing so. Let's promise not be ignorant towards the loud cry of gender discrimination. And finally, let's be sensible enough to understand the need of hour & sensitive enough to act accordingly.
Teach Her is what we need, not just a TeacHer!
